  1. Book: Horrible Histories: Measly Middle Ages by Terry Deary

This book tells us about the nastiest bits about the Middle Ages. Rotten Religion, Women and Children, Kings, Emperors, Bloody Battles and Defeats, and more. The people in the Middle Ages must've known about this book or else... to the guillotine! :D

Terry Deary tells children the tale of the Middle Ages in a way children can enjoy them, and also learn about some of the negative bits about the snotty kings and emperors, about children at that time, brave women, and religion at those times.

This book was lots of fun to read. I hope you enjoy it too! :D

  2. Here is the story I wrote:
Noha is a kind-hearted and intelligent girl. She is generous and always willing to help others. One day, she noticed that her friend Sara was wearing a pair of glasses that were broken and had been stuck together by her father. Most days Sara comes to school without any money, and if she gets any allowance, it is usually very little. Noha knows that Sara comes from a poor family. She wanted to help Sara but she couldn’t think of a good way to go about it. She decided to ask her parents for advice. That evening, while everyone was sitting in the kitchen, Noha said, ‘Dad, I have friend at school who doesn’t get much of an allowance from her family. I want to help her, but I don’t know how to. If I give her a present, she might feel she has to buy me something in return and she can’t really afford it. If I give her money, it might hurt her feelings. So, how shall I help her?’ Noha’s father was very pleased that his daughter was so considerate. He kissed her and said, ‘You are such a good girl, Noha! I am proud of you. Let’s think of how you can help your friend without hurting her feelings.’ Then Noha’s brother, Sami, said, ‘Why do you have to help her? You shouldn’t get involved in other people’s lives! Everyone should live according to their means.’
Noha said, ‘Well, I don’t agree. I think we should all empathise with other people and help them as much as we can in times of need.’ Sami said, ‘I don’t want to help anyone. Everyone is responsible for their own lives and how they live them. I am only responsible for myself.’ Sami’s father looked at him and said, ‘No, you are wrong. We should be ready to help others. At the same time, helping other people makes us happy because we are making them happy.’ Suddenly Noha jumped up and said, ‘I’ve got it! I’ve got it! I’ve got a great idea! I’ll take a box to school and make it into a coin box. Then I will ask Sara and my other friends to put some of their allowance in it. At the end of the week, we’ll share out all the money between us. I’ll put a lot of money in every day so Sara gets a lot of money by the end of the week, without knowing where the money comes from. That way, we won’t hurt her feelings because she’ll put in a share of her own allowance every day, even if it is not very much.’ Noha’s father smiled and said, ‘That’s a great idea! You are a special girl because you think about other people and want to help them. I’ll help too, by giving you some money to put in the piggy bank. Look, Sami, your sister is really happy because she is helping a friend. There’s a lesson for you to follow there, Sami!’
It is a short and sweet story...

  3. This is a story which I wrote:

A week had passed since Ms Adina had announced that there was to be a small end of chapter math test on Wednesday. Zac had a good understanding of what was taught at school, but he still needed to revise. Unfortunately, he had forgotten about the test. As he was having his breakfast, he happened to glance at the family calendar hanging on the kitchen wall and a sudden lightning bolt struck him making him realise that he had his test today. He was sorely disappointed with himself for having forgotten about the test. He thoughtlessly got dressed for school and boarded the bus all the while thinking about his upcoming test. Glancing out of the window he was astonished to see his favourite pencil, magnified almost five times! Surprisingly, nobody else seemed to notice the hovering pencil. The hovering pencil seemed to invite Zac and he simply couldn’t resist. Looking around to see if anyone noticed him he hoppped out through the semi open window and climbed onto the hovering pencil, which then zoomed past across the seas, to an island where it slowed down and stopped at a muddy field where it tilted sideways and Zac fell down through the field and onto a mattress. There were other kids that Zac barely seemed to recognise from his school and town. They were all assigned an empty room, where they had to simply enter and switch on the projector. A detailed video explaining all the math topics for his test that day were projected. The video barely finished when he suddenly felt a slight jolt. He opened his eyes to see that they were almost at school and waiting at a traffic signal. He remembered everything about the chapter. He quickly pulled out his pencil case and looked at his favourite blue pencil. It seemed to be winking at him! He finished his test and at the end of the day, their scores were declared. He was expecting, a B or a C but miraculously he got an A+. Now he knew where to seek help if he ever got stuck in any test. To sleep. And that is the story of how Zac scored full marks in a test he hadn’t studied for!

  6. This is Mythili Krishna from 5T I would like to post a story that I have written....
One beautiful Friday morning, a bird came and sat at my window. I tried to shoo it away but it did not go. It started speaking to me; I moved closer and noticed it was a hiraman parrot.Wow! It was a miracle. I have never seen a hiraman parrot in my life before. I love parrots it is so amazing. I asked it “Can you be my friend” and it said “yes”. I asked “how do you feel to be a bird and how do you fly everywhere”. Parrot told “I feel happy to fly everywhere and see all the views”. Suddenly it said “ I am getting late and will come every day to tell the news”. I bid him goodbye and went to sleep.
The next day evening, after I did my homework parrot came and sat at my window and started talking. I offered him some grains and it started visiting me every single day. I named it “Ginni” and we became the best friends ever. I asked about his story. Ginni said it was born in the tropical forest in Africa and he moved from there to a rain forest in India because the humans cut down the trees. Ginni’s mother and brother were caught by humans and taken to a pet shop and his father and sister were killed by a snake. Ginni escaped from the snake and flew away from the forest and reached my house.
I felt very sad after hearing his story and thinking that Ginni has no family now. I asked my mother, “Mom, Can I keep Ginni at our house as my pet?”. Mom agreed to keep him so did my father and I felt very happy. We bought a cage for him and kept in our balcony.
As my school started, I cannot talk to Ginni during the day. Morning I used to set him free when I wake up. Ginni will fly away and come back by evening. We both used to talk for hours and share stories for the day. Night, Ginni will sleep in the cage in our balcony.
That was my miracle that I got a good friend like Ginni.

  7. Good Evening!
My name is Sheryl Jacob, from 9 E and i would like to share a story:
    The Institute
Johnny was seven when he first heard about the Institute. Too young to fully comprehend what his parents were saying in hushed and rushed whispers, he only understood one sentence. ‘-But the Institute would be good for Johnny, Tom, you know his abilities.’ He didn’t know what ‘abilities’ or ‘Institute’ meant, but he knew that it would have been something serious, seeing how they were talking about him. And as for the ‘Institute’ he didn’t know why, but he was sure that he felt chills tingling down his back.

As he grew older, he learned the meaning of the words he heard as a seven year old, but it didn’t mean he knew what the Institute was. The Institute was a word that he shivered at, a hidden place with a shroud of fear and evil clouding it. The result of his parents using it as a threat when he misbehaved (a phenomenon that occurred often) ‘Stop that Johnny, you don’t want to go to the Institute, do you?’ ‘ I’ll ship you off to the Institute right this second if you don’t listen to me right this second Johnny!’ Menacing and frightening, Johnny knew he would never want to go there.

But you can’t avoid the inevitable forever. At fifteen, Johnny was finally at the Institute. You see, Johnny had a penchant for trouble. Tell him he can’t do something, he would do it before you even finished your sentence. Another thing, Johnny was awfully smart, therefore he sat in classes students his age would normally sit in. A fifteen year old in a grade filled with 17/18 year olds? Not a compound that ends well. A fifteen year old troublemaker with brains mixed with 17/18 year olds? You’ve got yourself an explosion right there.

The last strike before he finally went to the institute was ironically an explosion. A science fair volcano explosion more specifically. Apparently, setting your bully’s science fair experiment on fire doesn’t exactly abide with school rules. Thus a scared and angry Johnny had to say bye-bye to all of his fifteen-year-old home, and stood in front of looming towers of bricks and metal. A rickety swing set sat awkwardly in the lawns, as if wondering why it was there in the first place (Johnny could relate). ‘This place sure seems friendly guys, thanks for dropping me off at prison I guess.’ He told his parents who stood awkwardly and anxiously next to him. He was sure his mom was guilty (The angry part of him was glad she was angry). ‘Just give the Institute a chance Johnny, It was made for you and whatever it is that you like.’ His dad replied. Before he could continue, the gates of the Institute opened up.

    1. ‘Name.’
      ‘Umm..Johnny?’
The receptionist rolled her eyes, ‘Are you asking me if your name is Johnny?’ long green nails continued to click clack against the keyboard of the computer.
‘Uh, no. My name is Johnny. Short for Jonathan Sharp.’
      ‘Age?’
      ‘15’
      A pause.
The receptionist looks up and glances at his parents standing outside, looking nervous. ‘...get them young.’ she mutters under her breath.
‘We have your application Jonathan Benjamin Sharp. You’re a bit late but we’ll have to accept you.’ (late? Have they been waiting for him? why?Johnny is so creeped out right now) ‘You’re in room number 13.7, and you’re rooming with Luca Finch, don’t worry, he’s a smart kid, but then again, you all are. I hope you have all your things, otherwise your parents can drop them off in the mail. Lunch is at two fifteen sharp and dinner’s at six. Electronic devices are allowed, but social media is disabled and banned. Your device will be handed to you tomorrow at three fifteen sharp, after your beginner’s math class. Luca will share any other information you require. Thank you and goodbye. Welcome to The Institute.’

Needless to say, Johnny tries to run away exactly 17 and a half times, and fails 17 and a half times. He meets his roommate for exactly 11.2856 seconds and then dashes out the door of 207. Sadly The Institute is huge and it doesn’t help when you don’t know any of the exit points. So instead of reaching the gate of the Institute, he reaches the inner freezer of the Institute’s kitchen. It is not a good day for him. (All the other students in the Institute did not see him luckily, thank god for their weird cult like classes)

17.5 escape fails and 17 lectures later, he sits dejected on the rickety swings that fortunately don’t break under him, a popsicle in his hand (Thank you Carol the kitchen head) and a frown on his face. He misses his old school terribly, his friends, no matter how few there were, and he misses his home.

Suddenly, there’s a creak in the swing next to him. He groans in misery ‘I get it Patricia. I won’t try to run away again.’ ‘You’re a terrible liar.’ That does not sound like Patricia in any way. He jolts, ‘Who are you?’ he asks the boy sitting next to him. He seems like he’s Johnny’s age. The boy thrusts a hand out, ‘My name’s Anand, Anand Balakrishnan. I saw you running in front of my chemistry class earlier today.’ Johnny cautiously shakes his hand, ‘Johnny Sharp, how did you know I was here by the way?’ ‘Nice to meet you Johnny.’ He grins, Johnny notes that one of his incisors is quite crooked. ‘Mickey told me you were here.’ He continues ‘Mickey? Who’s Mickey?’ ‘My robot, he doesn’t like being called a robot though, so I just call him my friend.’ Johnny’s eyes shoot up. ‘You own a robot?! Wow, you must be rich.’ ‘Umm.. My dad sells coconut oil?But i’m pretty sure he’s not rich. I built Mickey, if that’s what you meant.’ Johnny stares at him, skepticism evident on his face. ‘Yeah sure, and I invented the Time Machine’

      Delete
    2. Anand laughs. A full boisterous laugh, almost creepy if you didn’t see the friendliness in his eyes ‘You don’t know what the Institute is do you?’
Johnny glares, ‘A prison is what this place is.’
‘Call it what you want Johnny, but the genius that you are on the inside is going to enjoy this place to the fullest. If you think you have to give up the things you had before, it’s a lie, you can go wherever you want whenever you want, with permission of course. The things others call eccentricities are the normal here, the trouble that you make outside, are comedies here. It’s a safe haven away from all the bullies and people who never believed in you and your capabilities.Although there is one thing you have to be aware of,If you’ve entered this haven, you can’t and won’t leave.’ He pauses, and stares up at the sky darkening with the evening reaching them closer and closer. ‘Believe me, I never lie.’

And it’s true, Anand never lies. Johnny’s misconception about the Institute ends in exactly 24 hours, after he enters his ‘beginners’ chemistry class and sees students shooting each other with chemically made webs, inspired by Spiderman of course. And enters his PCE class, which actually stands for Pop-Culture Education, and sees his classmates watching a One Direction music video on a glass/ holographic screen. But he knows he’s not going to try to escape any time soon, iswhen at three fifteen sharp, Mickey (Anand actually made him!!!) drops off his new device, and honestly who needs and Iphone when you can have your own customized holographic screen?

But what actually makes him realize the institute is his home, is when his new friends and classmates laugh warmly at the pranks he pulls, instead of glaring and complaining, or when Carol fondly gives him an extra popsicle when he asks for it, or when he and Luca experiment together, or just when he and Anand sneak down to the swings after dinner to simply joke around and talk together. He feels happy and content with what he has and loves everything at the institute.

Anand was right, once he entered the haven that the institute was, he wouldn’t leave. Not because somebody would stop him, but just because he didn’t want to.

Johnny’s glad he failed to escape seventeen and a half times.

(Johnny’s glad he believed him and stayed.)

HARRY POTTER AND CHAMBER OF SECRETS book review
" you'd better hope creevey doesn't meet ginny or they'll be starting a harry potter fan club"
I chose to read this book as it's more than a story about wizards and witches. Dobby, the house elf has influenced me the most as he is working for the malfoys and still tries to save harry's life
putting his life in risk. a line said by dumbledore has touched ,me the most which is, "It's our choices harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our capabilities. the character that i would like to change in this book is gilderoy lockhart as he is a writer and writes fake stories of himself helping other and saving their life. he also publishes those books trying to prove himself as a real hero

    HEIDI book review.

This is a book written by Johanna Spyri.
Heidi is happy living in the Alps with her grandfather. But one day she was taken to Frankfurt to be a companion for frail, sickly Clara. Heidi was feeling miserable over there. She longed to return to the freedom , fresh air and sunshine of the mountains. She thought that they might work their magic on Clara. And it did. Clara came to stay with Heidi in the Alps. The clean and fresh environment and the love of Heidi , her friend and Heidi's grandfather refreshed Clara's mind. Which in turn strengthened her body and she was perfectly well. I like this book because it was so touching to see how true friendship and clean environment can make difference in our lives.

  10. Book Review on ' From The Notebook Of The Middle School Princess' by Meg Cabot

I like this book ' From The Notebook Of The Middle School Princess' because, it revolves around a middle school girl named 'Olivia Grace Clarisse Mignonette Harrison' . So clearly you can understand how long her name is ! [it's princess themed] Olivia is a completely average twelve year old ,with average height ,weight ,brown hair of average length , brown skin and average hazel eyes . She wishes to be a wildlife illustrator and is excellent in drawing animals .
Olivia is a half orphan who's never met her father and is forced to live with her aunt and uncle , who are very kind to her and treat her like their own kids , so she can't complain .
Until a day comes where every thing goes wrong : The most popular girl in school ,Annabelle Jenkins ,threatens to beat her up , the principal gives her a dermit , and she is knocked out at the bus stop .... Then the most anomalous thing occurs which Olivia could not even imagine in her dreams .. A limo containing Princess Mia Thermopolis of Genovia pulls up to invite Olivia to New York to finally meet her father , who promptly wants his daughter to come along and live with him in his palace with Mia ,HRH Clarisse Grimaldi Renaldo [ Grandmere of Olivia ] and their two fabulous poodles .
So at last, Princess 'Olivia Grace Clarisse Mignonette Harrison' isn't average after all !
According to my experience I rate this book 5/5 !
I would like all of you to read this book as it is very entertaining and 'The only thing wrong with it is that you can't put it down ' .

  13. Book review on "Shatter Me" written by Tahereh Mafi

This book involves lot of purple prose. A book that will forever remain nameless spoke of “leaking wombs” and well it made me shiver. It also introduced me to the entire concept of purple prose. Prose can be beautiful. I’ve read plenty of books where the writing touches me deeply and the author is simply writing about the sunset, or a walk in the park, or the plight of the poor.
The story revolves around a girl called Juliette she is a prodigy who cant control her power because she doesn't know there are other like her. Her parents abused her when she was a kid she was outcasted in every school .The teachers made her sit alone, she never had a real friend her mother hated her for setting foot in this earth .Juliette was found and taken to a asylum where people experimented on her. Her only source of comfort was a small book where she writes her deepest darkest thoughts which mostly involved how she suffered there and how much self loathing and anger she inflicted upon herself ,at times she felt like killing her but then she has a flicker of hope, in her dreams she sees a white bird with a golden crown flying that made her feel she will get out of here, the author describes her emotions in a beautiful proses .This book involved a lots of proses, suspense and the feeling of love.

On the book War of the Worlds
When an army of invading Martians lands in England, panic and terror seize the population. As the aliens traverse the country in huge three-legged machines, incinerating all in their path with a heat ray and spreading noxious toxic gases, the people of the Earth must come to terms with the prospect of the end of human civilization and the beginning of Martian rule.

Inspiring films, radio dramas, comic-book adaptations, television series and sequels,The War of the Worlds is a prototypical work of science fiction which has influenced every alien story that has come since, and is unsurpassed in its ability to thrill, well over a century since it was first published.

This book tells us all about the careers and different branches of science like material scientist, robotics, space scientist etc. Even if we are just middle school kids A.P.J Abdul Kalam briefly explains about what each branch is about, different experiments, new inventions and a conversation with a student and a teacher. I would recommend this book because it is all about science and I am a science enthusiast and this book is for all science enthusiasts.

    BOOK REVIEW:
You can’t blend in when you were born to stand out.
It is not our fault that we are born differently. It shows how unique we are. I am obviously talking about a book that most of you might know. WONDER. It is really a very inspiring book written by R.J.Palacio. So basically there is a boy called Auggie. August Pullman is born with facial difference. He is told to attend a school [a normal school] at fifth. He wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid. But his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face. Auggie’s character has influenced me the most. Even though he does easily get his feelings hurt, though, especially when kids insult him about his face, he is a very brave and strong boy. WONDER is an excellent book that tells a moving and inspiring story. It’s fast-moving and gripping too. I found myself reading it on the bus even if I only had time to read a couple of pages. It appeals to all age groups and is very popular with teenagers and adults. Auggie is a very likeable central character. He’s got a good sense of humour, so the book is both funny and sad at times. It’s a fascinating story about a regular kid who’s living in a world that’s not used to people who look different. There is a character I would like to change in this book. Julian. Julian Albans is one of Auggie's biggest obstacles at Beecher Prep. He's rude to Auggie and makes other kids feel like they have to be, too. He's an only child, and his popularity at school is really important to him, which is part of why he was so mean to Auggie. But at the same time I feel Julian has to keep his character, that’s what makes the story interesting.
My most favourite part in this story is: Everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their life because we all overcometh the world.-Auggie

  17. Book Review on Famous Five On Treasure Island by Enid Blyton.
This is the first book of Famous Five series. In this book George, Julian, Anne and Dick meet. George's father is a scientist but he was poor could not afford to send George to a nice school. Georgina is a girl who wants to be a boy. She behaves and pretend to be a boy. She looked like a boy too. She was more brave and active than a boy. This book tells us how the four cousins and Timothy, George's pet dog met. There were arguments the first time they met. After sometime they adjusted and became friends and had an adventure together in Kirrin Island, George's island. The best part of this book is when they are on an adventure. I want everyone to read this book because it is fun filled, adventuristic and interesting book.

    author: Road dhal

Little George's parent's perish, and he moves out to live with his grandma in norway. His grandma told him about witches. the witches wore gloves and wore wigs. How will we recogonize them? Well they would rub their hear very frequntly as they were bald and the wig's underside would be very itchy. Now as they went for a hotel as a vacation, they realise that the ladies who were working for abandoning child labour came out to be the witches. They made George a rat using their secret formula. Taking advantage of his form he puts the same formula into the witches' soup. He and his grandmother travel all over the world and defeat the witches.
